En Apoyo a las declaraciones del Doctor Ivan Manero y como Respuesta a ciertas criticas provenientes de la activista transexual Carla Antonelli.

Con motivo de unas críticas provenientes de la activista transexual Carla Antonelli hacia las declaraciones del Doctor Iván Mañero, Jefe de la Unidad de Género del Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, y como activista por los derechos sanitarios de las personas con Transexualismo, y con el debido respeto a las opiniones de la mencionada activista transexual, las cuales no comparto, en base a mi propia investigación original de las causas del Transexualismo, expongo a continuación mis opiniones al respecto.

Los especialistas investigadores médicos expertos en Transexualismo (CIE-10) han declarado, afirmado y firmado en los últimos años, importantes documentos y manifiestos públicos constatando la naturaleza fisiológica, intersexual, no psicológica, del Transexualismo verdadero - moderno Síndrome de Harry Benjamin. (Gooren, Asscheman, Cohen-Kettenis, Diamond, Playdon, Reiner, Swaab, Walker, Kruijver et al. 2002-08; Tempfer et al., 2008; Landén, 2008; Harley, 2008; Luders E, Sánchez PJ, Gaser C, Toga AW, Narr KL, Hamilton LS, Vilain E, 2009).

El Doctor Iván Mañero está por lo tanto en lo cierto cuando afirma que el Transexualismo es una enfermedad, entendida ésta como una alteración en el estado de salud de la persona que no obedece a causas psiquiatricas pues no se ha demostrado científicamente que la etiología de esta enfermedad sea psicológica ni se trata psiquiátricamente, sino siguiendo los protocolos internacionales de tratamiento de esta condición médica que incluye Terapia de Reemplazo Hormonal y Cirugía de Adecuación Sexual (WPATH, anteriormente Harry Benjamin Gender Dysphoria Association).

Las personas con Transexualismo o síndrome de Harry Benjamin requieren una rehabilitación de su fenotipo y sistema endocrino para ajustarlo a su identidad de género, la cual según las investigaciones médicas más recientes viene predeterminada por la estructura del cerebro (Gurney, Mills, 2005; Drs. Swaab, Falgueras, 2009) y determinados factores genéticos, tratándose por tanto de una condición médica legítima que requiere tratamiento médico altamente especializado. Es en este marco de entendimiento cuando hablar de enfermedad o condición médica es por lo tanto correcto y acertado.

Tengamos en cuenta que si el tratamiento completo del Transexualismo se encuentra cubierto por la sanidad pública en algunas CCAA es precisamente porque se trata de una reconocida patología por la OMS, si bien la clasificación y definición de esta patología fisiológica necesita ser actualizada en consonancia con los avances en la investigación médica de las últimas dos décadas al respecto, que se inclinan hacia una etiología biológica y no psicológica de la condición, según han manifestado numerosos especialistas médicos de renombre internacional.

Cabe no obstante reseñar que en la sociedad actual la definición de "transexual" es usada como seña de identificación por un amplio espectro de individuos de la más diversa ambiguedad sexual y por lo tanto no todos los que se identifican como transexuales hoy en dia sufren en realidad la condición genuina de Transexualismo que requiere de tratamiento médico de por vida e importantes cirugias mayores para ajustar las características sexuales y el fenotipo de la persona a su identidad de género, por lo que se genera una diversificación de opiniones al respecto desde dentro de este colectivo al identificarse con el mismo personas de muy distinta naturaleza psicológica-sexual con necesidades completamente diferentes y realidades diametralmente opuestas.

En este punto se hace absolutamente necesario diferenciar entre ambas realidades, la realidad transgénero-transexual y la realidad de las personas que sufren la condición de síndrome de Harry Benjamin, o Transexualismo Primario, pues se trata de realidades que requieren de unos enfoques y tratamientos totalmente distintos como estamos viendo constituyendo problemáticas sociales y sanitarias completamente diferentes.

Es injusto criticar a un Doctor como Iván Mañero por unas declaraciones acertadas que hace como médico especialista en el tratamiento de esta condición y que viene realizando una labor extraordinaria de ayuda a los pacientes que sufren la condición de Transexualismo Primario desde hace muchísimos años en este pais, un médico que ha devuelto la salud y la felicidad a cientos de pacientes que sufren esta grave condición médica. La crítica está además fuera de contexto pues proviene de una persona que si bien es activista no es médico y tampoco hay objeto de comparación entre el Transexualismo y la homosexualidad.

Manifiesto por lo tanto mi más rotundo apoyo a las palabras de este distinguido doctor y abogo por un tratamiento sanitario riguroso de esta condición desde los protocolos médicos supervisados y lo manifestado por los especialistas médicos en esta materia en la presente década. El transexualismo no es una cuestión de diversidad sexual, las personas que sufren esta condición son personas de orientación binaria de género convencional Hombre-Mujer y necesitan por tanto de una rehabilitación física completa para poder funcionar sexualmente y poder desarrollarse socialmente como cualquier otra persona promedio en nuestra sociedad.

Harry Benjamin's Syndrome (HBS) is an intersex condition developed in the early stages of pregnancy affecting the process of sexual differentiation between male and female. This happens when the brain develops as a certain sex but the rest of the body takes on the physical characteristics of the opposite sex. The difference between this and most other intersex conditions is that there is no apparent evidence until much later after the baby is born or even as late as adolescence. Genetic etiology for this condition has been proved by very recent medical research.

Over 60 years of medical research regarding Transsexualism (modern HBS) specify that there is NO evidence whatsoever that any psychological or environmental factors cause Transsexualism-HBS. All of the medical research done to date indicates conclusively that physiological (neurological, genetic) factors are the sole cause of Transsexualism-HBS.

Transsexualism (HBS) is now regarded by the world's leading experts in the field as another of the many biological variations that occur in human sexual formation -an intersex condition- where the sex indicated by the phenotype and genotype is opposite the morphological sex of the brain. People with the condition of transsexualism (HBS) are therefore born with both male and female characteristics and, like many others with atypical sexual development, seek rehabilitation of their phenotype and endocrinology to accord with their dominant sexual identity; an identity which is determined by the structure of the brain. Transsexualism (HBS) is about being a particular sex, not doing it. It is also about recognising gender norms, not challenging them.

"Transsexuality" is a phenomenon that occurs in the animal kingdom (e.g. certain amphibious, birds, oysters) that consists of a change of natural sex in the species. Popularly, we apply it also to humans when speaking of people who "change their sex". "Transsexuality" is a generic term that applies to all kinds of species and variations, while "Transsexualism" is a much more precise medical term, which we should use exclusively for people with the condition of Transsexualism - more properly defined today as Harry Benjamin's Syndrome, as it follows the naming conventions of intersex conditions.

Therefore, Harry Benjamin's Syndrome should not be confused with transgenderism or transsexuality.

We the undersigned demand you full recognition of Harry Benjamin's Syndrome as a genuine inborn intersexual condition, not linked to transgenderism or transsexuality, as well as the removal of this condition from the psychiatric classification, in order to advance in the human and medical understanding and treatment of this condition world-wide.

El Síndrome de Harry Benjamin (SHB) es una condición intersexual de nacimiento que ocurre en apróx. 1 de cada 100.000 niños de ambos sexos, en la cual la diferenciación sexual a niveles neurológico y anatómico no se corresponden. Así, una niña nacida con esta condición, parece ser un niño al nacer, su sexo cerebral es femenino pero su anatomía externa es masculina -genitales masculinos. Los niños nacidos con esta condición presentan genitalia femenina, aunque su sexo cerebral es masculino: neurológicamente son varones.

Actualmente la medicina no es capaz de diagnosticar este problema en el nacimiento, por lo cual el Síndrome de Harry Benjamin causa entonces que a estos niños se les adjudique el sexo erróneo desde el nacimiento, siendo a posteriori educados en el rol de género contrario a su verdadero sexo biológico.

Hoy sabemos que el cerebro es, de lejos, el órgano sexual más importante, y el único que puede definir, a ciencia cierta, el verdadero sexo de una persona. La identidad de género se halla impresa en las estructuras más profundas del SNC y el cerebro. El Síndrome de Harry Benjamin se diferencia de otras condiciones intersexuales, en que éste no es evidente para diagnóstico en el nacimiento, sino más interno y difícil de diagnosticar, pues requiere una tecnología de diagnóstico médico más avanzada.

El Síndrome de Harry Benjamin no es una enfermedad o un trastorno, ni se alienta a considerarlo como tal, sino una variación biológica del desarrollo sexual humano, al igual que lo son los demás Síndromes Intersexuales. Cuando en ésta página se habla de "padecimiento" y de "sufrir" Síndrome de Harry Benjamin, se hace referencia al sufrimiento (causado por la incongruencia física) que la vasta mayoria de las personas nacidas con ésta condición experimentan, y no a una consideración patológica o de enfermedad o trastorno del Síndrome de Harry Benjamin.

La sindrome di Harry Benjamin (HBS) è una condizione intersessuale congenita che ha origine durante lo sviluppo prenatale, e coinvolge la differenziazione delle identità di genere maschile e femminile nel cervello. L’incidenza stimata della HBS è di 1 su 100.000 nascite.

In parole povere, una ragazza con HBS avrebbe un’identità di genere neurologica femminile, mentre i genitali sarebbero maschili. Allo stesso modo, i ragazzi con questa condizione hanno genitali femminili associati con un’identità di genere neurologica maschile.

Al momento, non è possibile diagnosticare questa condizione al tempo della nascita. Così, i bambini vengono cresciuti nel ruolo di genere opposto a quello della loro identità neurologica di genere. Questo spesso porta a problemi psicologici non collegati alla HBS stessa.

L’identità di genere è una funzione puramente neurologica, senza fattori psicologici annessi.

Perciò, sono fattori neurologici a determinare l’identità di genere, non le strutture anatomiche dei genitali. La struttura fisica del cervello, come il sistema nervoso centrale, fissano l’identità di genere. Dato che non c’è evidenza palese al momento della nascita, è difficile per i dottori diagnosticare la condizione, abbastanza diversamente da altre condizioni intersessuali.

La sindrome di Harry Benjamin non è una malattia o un disordine, e non dovremmo considerarla tale, ma piuttosto una variazione fisiologica della costituzione sessuale umana, come nel caso di altre sindromi intersessuali. Quando, su questa pagina, parliamo del “soffrire della HBS”, ci riferiamo alla sofferenza causata dall’incongruenza fisica che le persone nate con questa condizione subiscono, e non ad una spiegazione patologica per la HBS.
